A lot of store owners hold back from short video because they do not want to be on camera. The good news is that it is not required. Many successful product accounts show only hands, the product and a voice or text. What matters is the idea and the first second.
Formats that work without a face
- Hands-only demo. Show the product being used, step by step.
- Before and after. A messy desk, then a tidy one. A tangled cable, then neat.
- Unboxing and first impressions. Filmed from above, with real reactions in text or voice. This is also a good use of your sample orders.
- Text-on-screen stories. A problem, a twist and a solution, with captions only.
- Screen recordings. Useful for digital or tech products.
- Voiceover. Your voice, or a text-to-speech option, over footage of the product.
The first second decides everything
Viewers scroll quickly. Open with the most interesting moment: the result, a question or a problem. "This stopped my coffee from going cold" is a better opening than a logo animation. Put the main point in text on screen, as many people watch with the sound off.
Keep the filming simple
Good enough is fine:
- A phone with a clean lens.
- Daylight from a window, or one inexpensive light.
- A plain background without clutter.
- A small tripod or a stack of books to hold the phone steady.
- Sound: if you use a voice, record in a quiet room.
Short videos of 10 to 30 seconds are enough for most products.
Be honest about the product
Show what it really does. Overstated claims bring negative comments, returns and sometimes account problems. If you have the real product, you can show the real result.
Posting and testing
Post a handful of videos a week, with different hooks for the same product. Look at which have a higher share of people watching to the end, and make more like them. Not every video needs to sell. Some should entertain or teach so that people follow the account.
Send people somewhere
Put the link in your profile, mention it in the caption and reply to comments with details. If you use TikTok's shopping tools, check that you can use them in your country and that your delivery times meet their rules.
